Pilot shortage grounds flights at regional airports

At 7:30 in the morning, the terminal inside Cheyenne, Wyoming’s regional airport looks like a weary traveler’s dream. It’s quiet, there are no lines and parking is free. Compass Airlines to fly E-175s for American from Los Angeles

American Airlines will open a base for Minneapolis-based regional carrier Compass Airlines Embraer E-175 aircraft at Los Angeles International Airport. Initial routes will be to Denver and Houston beginning March 29, an airline spokeswoman confirmed Monday. American has assigned 20 of its new E-175s to Compass, and more routes from Los Angeles should be announced as the regional airline takes delivery of more aircraft. American Airlines, Pilots Union Reach Labor Deal

The pilots union at American Airlines has agreed to put up for a vote a five-year contract proposal that would boost pay by more than 26 percent and offer smaller raises in later years. The board of the Allied Pilots Association agreed late Saturday, just before a midnight deadline set by the company, to accept the basic terms of the deal before the offer was pulled and negotiations moved to arbitration.
